Our History

DP Marine was born in 2014 shortly after the merger between DNV & GL Noble Denton. The founder of the company, Peter Solvang, was at that time the DP country manager for GL Noble Denton with a department name of ‘DP & Marine Assurance Norway’.

Sounds familiar, yes?

The primary aim of the company was to continue providing the highest standards in all areas of DP & vessel Assurance, but at a realistic price; but just as importantly to be an innovator and market leader for outside-the-box thinking. We approached the market not from our perspective, but instead from our clients perspective.

The first outside-the-box client request was to devise a remote DP trials system, which we pioneered & released to the market in 2015. A great success enthusiastically embraced by clients and vessels alike. Secure, bullet-proof and un-cheatable. Administered using the unique (And free) DP Marine vessel management system, our remote trials are still in demand in areas where IMCA M190 compliance is not a requirement.

Next came Biometric people tracking systems. Using our connections within the UK airport, construction & the London Olympic games, we were the first to offer card-free people tracking ashore or on board. The system can pinpoint the last known location of someone in case of incident, or purely as a time & motion efficiency exercise. Utterly brilliant. Everyone is a unique individual & we utilise that to your advantage. We track your people, not their cards.

Independent network storm testing kits. Test the networks yourself or we can do it in person, the testing is 100% independent & can be used on any & all networks, not just the DP. Saves you time & money & provides real-life testing using OEM procedures. Find out just how resilient your networks really are. Again, we were an OSJ award finalist together with the system developers Vessel Technology.

DP Vessel Management System was first introduced in 2016 to augment the remote trials scheme but quickly evolved into very much more. This is where the magic begins, not only for the functionality & user-friendly operation of the system, but also as an invaluable tool to reduce the workload on vessel & fleet managers, and the crews on board. The final piece of magic dust is the price – we provide the system free of charge to all our clients.
