Dynamic Positioning Signal Simulator DPSS® – Unique innovative technology developed by Vessel Technology Ltd. to enhance operational safety, reduce risk and lower the cost of FMEA and annual DP trials.
DP & Marine Assurance Norway AS was selected by Vessel Technology Ltd as their preferred DP practitioner for the world’s first live testing of the innovative Dynamic Positioning Signal Simulator. David Milne, Managing Director of Vessel Technology Ltd said: “We selected to work with DP Marine due to their outward innovative approach in the dynamic positioning and marine markets. The testing was performed on Big Orange XVIII, a DP2 well stimulation vessel, part of the Siem Offshore technically advanced fleet. Testing was carried out in Esbjerg in conjunction with the FMEA Proving Trials.”
The results proved a total success with all parties seeing the potential to save money and time as well as increasing safety using Dynamic Positioning Signal Simulator technology.
David added: “The purpose of DPSS® testing is to identify problems and solutions before they arise. DPSS® reduces the need for costly callouts enabling FMEA proving trials, annual trials or any ad hoc testing to be carried out when it is most convenient for vessel owners without the need to have the manufacturers service engineer on board.”
The DPSS® technology tests complex references, such as combinations of signals or faulty inputs, or simulates critical failures, such as network storms. Not only does this save time and money, it gives immediate feedback of the results, provides early identification of any potential DP issues and gives reassurance regarding the safety of the crew and equipment. This technology enables testing of areas highlighted by the MTS (Marine Technology Society) Dynamic Positioning Committee.
